Hi, I'm Tobi.

Web- and IoT developer

Welcome to my portfolio

In a nutshell

Hi, I'm Tobi, fullstack web- and IoT developer. Actually, a studied economist. Did you know the latest 'modern' economic theory was released over 30 years ago in 1990? Then you might understand the change of mind. I write about my career change into development and contribute Open Source code and knowledge to the dev community. You're welcome to connect with me over social media or browse my projects and articles.

Typescript developer

I specialize in creating modern JavaScript and Typescript applications, which range from traditional websites to more intricate business applications. This includes working with a variety of classic frameworks, as well as low-code tools.

Technical writer

I'm openly sharing my learning journey on my blogging site and on dev.to. Over the years, I've accumulated a carefully crafted collection of articles about challenging problems I encountered during development and how to solve them.

Tag moderator

I'm helping to curate the tags for 'Vue' and 'Typescript' on dev.to, giving my best to ensure a friendly and engaging environment for publishers and readers.

My journey

In case you wonder wonder how I got here

A basic python course in University got me interested in development. I started fiddling around with explorative data analysis, visualization and eventually the basics of machine learning. But only when I figured out what you could do with a browser except for googling (for example remove that cumbersome paywall from your favorite magazine), I started learning how to code for real.

My first dev-related job was working as an inhouse-consultant at a global manufacturer of hinges in germany. I was responsible to think up new custom developments in co-op with an incredibly skilled international team. Lots of the methodology I picked up layed the foundation for my professional career in IT.

Right now, I am working at an IoT consultancy in Bielefeld to hone my skills in developing interface applications for machines and systems, as well as Augmented Reality (AR) solutions in manufacturing. My latest delivered projects include the development of an AR solution for employee training, as well as an adapter component to connect a freshly rolled out ERP system to third party planning- and machine systems.

My latest work and stats

In my spare time, I do a fair bit of hobby coding. You can find a few selected projects below. My 'ghost-notifier' project even won the first price at the MongoDB hackathon on dev.to. I also wrote an article about it on MongoDB's offical tutorial page

I also started volunteering on dev.to as a tag moderator. Reviewing a few posts a day helps me broaden my knowledge with niche topics. I also publish my blog posts there. For me, this is a way of giving back to the community that provided me with so much invaluable knowledge about technology and web development when I was just starting out.
